Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

New GlutenEase Product at The Skinny Pantry

May is National Celiac Disease Awareness Month, and The Skinny Pantry, in Fort Myers, is introducing GlutenEase, made by Port Charlotte-based Enzymedica. The product helps individuals suffering with gluten intolerance to digest offending proteins and may also be used by those who wish to remain on a gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet to ensure complete, safe and effective breakdown of proteins.

Gluten intolerance can lead to intestinal inflammation and other disorders. Further, if tissue within the small intestine—which absorbs nutrients and provides enzymes to help digest complex proteins—becomes damaged from food allergies, bad eating habits, age or strong medications, the ability to produce the necessary enzymes to fully digest specific foods is reduced. This, in turn, can lead to malabsorption, nutrient deficiencies or other digestive disorders.

“The main treatment has been to adopt a GFCF diet,” says owner Terry Foster. “Though effective in the short term, removing foods does not provide an ultimate solution. Once these foods are reintroduced to the diet, symptoms return. GlutenEase assists in normalizing inflammatory response to the gluten peptide. This proactively supports digestion, allowing proteins to be properly broken down and absorbed in their digested state, broadening the potential food groups a person may eat.”
