If there is a need, a laser is used to perform the procedure in the office. The procedure does not require sedation or an operating room. After it is finished, new mothers are encouraged to follow up with a lactation consultant familiar with post-revision exercises, as it may take time to see improvement with the latch because the baby will need to learn how to use their tongue properly. Many mothers report that nipple pain subsides within the first few days after revision and the need for reflux medication decreases.
