Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Hair Removal for Sensitive Skin

Hair removal isn’t new. Today’s methods are the result of a slow evolution from early cavemen that scraped facial or body hair with a shell, sharp rock or flint blade to the Roman Empire, where hair removal was done with pumice stones, razors and tweezers. Far less painful, the first commercial hair removal cream appeared on retail shelves in 1972.

While the options for hair removal have increased—shaving, waxing, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared home laser devices—sugaring, first used by ancient Egyptians, has had staying power. Less uncomfortable than waxing, which uses products made of petroleum-based resins that stick to the surface to which they are applied, a natural paste made from sugar, lemon and water never adheres to live skin cells.

When it is removed, the skin is gently exfoliated of dead cells, leaving behind freshened skin. The all-natural, eco-friendly, biodegradable and water-soluble sugaring paste is safe for sensitive skin types because it can be rinsed away. It does not need to be heated, so there is no potential to burn the skin.

A trained aesthetician individually applies a sugar application, which is only used once and then disposed of. A few sessions may be necessary before hair is completely removed.
