At the top of any industry pyramid of success there are generally only a few professionals that earn nationwide recognition for their expertise. In the fitness industry Southwest Florida boasts two noteworthy leaders, Amy and Rick Lademann, founders of Beyond Motion, located in Naples. Frontrunners in the areas of Pilates, strength and conditioning training, as well as personal training, the Lademann’s expertise earned them a book contract for Pilates & Conditioning for Athletes: An Integrated Approach to Performance and Recovery in late 2016.  “Human Kinetics, the premier publisher of the fitness industry’s educational books and materials, had already done their homework and interviewed several other experts before calling to ask me and Rick if we were interested in authoring a book based on our philosophies of combining Pilates and conditioning using our multi-dimensional approach,” says Amy.

The Lademanns have been involved in the fitness industry for more than 30 years. “While my career began in aerobics, I went on to complete instructor training in dance fitness programs such as the Nia Technique, Bellatone, Barre, and Zumba as well as yoga and Pilates. Rick has always specialized in speed and strength training. He worked with internationally recognized orthopedic surgeons at the

Steadman Hawkins Clinic as the strength and conditioning consultant, eventually becoming the primary performance coach for baseball player Larry Walker, the only Colorado Rockies player to ever win the National League Most Valuable Player award. Throughout Rick’s career he has been a strength and conditioning coach for USA Figure Skating and Weightlifting, the Chicago Bulls, Air force Academy Football and the University of California Berkley. Today the Lademanns work with athletes throughout Florida as well as those that travel to Beyond Motion for their off-season training,” she advises.

For more than 20 years Rick and Amy studied how the body works. “Most of the Human Kinetics books that we own were required reading for continuing education courses,” explains Amy, noting that the trail, which led the publishing house to their Naples doorstep was the result of articles published in the Chicago Sun Times and others about their training of athletes.

For hopeful authors that have never worked with a publisher, Amy offers insight. “It was a 30-month ping-pong-process; writing, re-writing and testing workout programs all the while keeping in mind that the book would be read by people who may have never worked with us. Next came photo shoots and more re-writes. We’re not sure how we managed to fit this into operating a Pilates teacher-training program, conducting speed camps for athletes and students, working with clients and collaborating daily with our staff of 10 fitness professionals,” quips Amy.

Sharing their knowledge and helping people live their best life via a book was a challenge. The Lademann’s are elated that Pilates & Conditioning for Athletes: An Integrated Approach to Performance and Recovery is now available for purchase. Each chapter stands alone and details our integrative methodologies. Readers can use recommended tools, exercises and workouts at home, on the road or in the Naples facility.
