Because Jesus came to spread the Gospel of Love, a message about expressing love through giving, Christmas, the day on which we celebrate his birth, is really a non-denominational holy day that is truly a wonderful gift to every one.

Focusing on the symbolism of mindful giving from the heart without any expectation of receiving can not only invite us to remember that this action is the best thing that any of us can do, it can also lessen the stressful affairs involved with shopping.

The original Christmas story is full of gifting examples. Shepherds in the fields were gifted with a visit from angels singing and announcing good news of peace, joy and Jesus’ birth. The wise magi were not only gifted with a guiding star, but also the Christmas spirit, and in turn, expressed this by gifting the baby with gold and the sacred oils of frankincense and myrrh.

Being alive is a great gift. This Christmas, let us enjoy the spirit of giving as an expression of gratitude for life and do our best to enjoy the Christmas season as a time of giving and receiving, which is all about love. As we give, so shall we receive the simple joy of the receiver.
