Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Synchronicity is the Watchword for Mary Baron

“It’s not enough to be in the right place at the right time. You have to be the right person in the right place at the right time.” ~ T. Harv Eker

Mary M. Baron, the newest member of Thornburg Pediatrics staff, in Naples, was definitely the right person with all the right qualifications, in the right place and at exactly the right time. Baron, who moved to Naples in 2014, was already familiar with Dr. Brian Thornburg, her daughter’s pediatrician. “Because nursing provides a holistic view of medicine, I prefer that Sophia has a pediatrician with a more integrative approach to medicine. It’s why I chose Dr. Thornburg. He listens, he cares, and his family perspective on pediatrics takes into consideration not just the patient, but also their family and their home environment,” explains Baron.

Baron did her homework before moving from Waltham, Massachusetts, to Naples in order to live closer to her parents and enjoy warmer weather. When she began interacting professionally with Thornburg, her right circumstances couldn’t have been more advantageous. “I was a Florida Gulf Coast University nurse practitioner student working on my pediatric rotations in order to earn my doctorate of nursing degree,” advises Baron, who previously received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Johns Hopkins University, in Maryland.

Baron’s first career while living in Massachusetts was that of a certified public accountant. “While being an accountant was a great experience and I made a lot of friends and got to travel, when I sensed a calling to health care, I knew it was time for a change. I went back to school to be a nurse. I had two great aunts who were nurses, which may have been my inspiration,” says Baron, who began her career in nursing in the children’s cardiac intensive care unit of Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the world.

After moving to Florida, Baron’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. With a head for business and a heart for health care, Baron and her sister Charlene created Inner Strength RN Health Advocates. “As care coordinators, we help people to find resources such as doctors, information about their treatments and lifestyle enrichment,” she says. The business continues to be successful, which is why the sisters hired another nurse so that Baron can step back from day-to-day operations after June when she begins working as a nurse practitioner at Thornburg’s concierge practice.

Speaking from personal experience, Baron advises, “No matter our age, throughout our adult lives, if we are open to new things, opportunities show up. We have to trust that when they do, if we are in the right place at right time it all comes together like it did for me. We can’t take such synchronicity or serendipity for granted.”
