Studio 37: An Uplifting ExperienceFeb 28, 2021 03:14PM ● By Linda Sechrist
Carol Jackson, the author of Color Me Beautiful: Discover Your Natural Beauty Through Color, has helped women around the world to enhance their appearance. Widely distributed and translated into 17 languages, 25 million copies of the book have been sold since 1980, popularizing a seasonal color analysis that women still use to determine the right colors to improve the appearance of their facial skin tone. While Jackson focused on makeup colors to flatter the face, local hair stylist and color specialist Betty Ann Murphy, owner of Studio 37, in Naples, focuses on flattering makeovers that include hair color and her own brand of hairstyle science that creates a beautiful frame to any face.
Murphy’s Facial Symmetry Analysis takes into consideration measurements from the eyes to the hairline, eyebrows to bottom of nose and nose to chin: three equal thirds. “Symmetry is based on balance. In general, everyone’s best feature is the eyes, considered as the mirrors of the soul. Our personalities come out in our eyes, so it’s natural to want to draw attention to them,” explains Murphy, who agrees with Jackson that skin tone is also a deciding factor for the best hair color.
Murphy offers an analogy. “A former interior designer that was a client told me, ‘When I walk into a room, I want to think, “Oh what a beautiful room,” not what a beautiful coffee table.”’ This means that people are more attractive when their hair color, makeup and clothes are all within the same color palette.” Murphy says her heart sings every time a client leaves her salon with a parting remark of, “I feel like a whole new person.”
She says, “With the pandemic dragging on longer than anyone anticipated, women are looking for a lift. Things such as a new stylish hairstyle, vibrant color, highlights, or extra special conditioning treatment, that makes the hair shine, can provide a lasting lift.”
