Reader Spotlight: Meet Linda Penniman
Meet Linda Penniman, Naples resident
Work: Currently I serve on the boards of Calusa Waterkeeper, Neighborhood Health Clinic, WGCU Advisory Committee and Naples Art. I chair the water quality committee for the Collier Citizen’s Council, am a member of the Environment Committee for League of Women Voters, president of SMARTGROWTHNOW, a member of the Collier County Presidents’ Council, working on an initiative having to do with the Rights of Nature and with my husband Nick, I am exploring news alternative for this area.
Proudest achievement: Having the opportunity to serve the citizens of the city of Naples as an elected official.
Expectations for the future: I will continue working on all of the above in hopes of producing better outcomes for the citizens of Collier County.
Favorite Websites: I subscribe to six online newspapers within the state of Florida along with other national news sources. Many sites having to do with the environment in our state are also part of my daily reads.
Local or global causes supported: Largely environmental, along with health care for the working poor.
Favorite thing about Natural Awakenings: I pore over the articles that appear and love the fact that the magazine holds, and has for many years, a unique niche in the lexicon of healthy living concepts that are available today.
Most frequented healthy food restaurant: My own home.
How I support my community: With time and treasure for the numerous causes listed above, along with the cultural organizations that exist for those of us who live in Collier County.
Favorite inspirational quote: I grew up in the Land of Lincoln, so this quote from him resonates with me: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years.”
What you are doing to be the change you want to see in the world: Change is inevitable. Managing change is a constant challenge, as change for change’s sake is fool’s gold.
