Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Gore Education Center Grand Opening

Cypress Cove Landkeepers will host a free grand opening sponsored by Alair Homes of the new Gore Education Center at 4261 40th Avenue Southeast, in the Golden Gate Estates area of Naples from noon to 4 p.m. on November 7. Festivities within the 10-acre ‘‘Old Florida’’ preserve will include guided trail tours, presentations on native plant and animal life by local experts and nature-inspired family crafts and access to Dr. Robert H. Gore’s original cracker-style home that’s been restored to seve as the center’s education building.

Representatives of the Naples Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, Conservation Collier, UF/IFAS Florida Master Gardener Program and bear and panther specialists of the Florida Wildlife Commission and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be on hand.

Cypress Cove Landkeepers and Conservation Collier now manage two adjacent preseres encompassing the entire 180 acres of untouched land that Gore owned at the end of his life. He purchased the land 20 years ago to save this unique hammock, reminiscent of his Florida childhood, from development.
