Raindrop Therapy
Raindrop Therapy is a uniquely aromatic and soothing wellness technique that blends essential oils with gentle touch to support relaxation and mind–body harmony. Developed by Dr. Gary Young of Young Living Essential Oils in collaboration with Lakota medicine man Wallace Black Elk, the method integrates elements of traditional Lakota practices with modern aromatherapy.
A session begins with the application of essential oils using the VITA FLEX technique, a specialized form of reflexology developed by Stanley Burrows. Oils are first applied to the feet and then along the spine, where they are lightly dropped from several inches above the body, creating the signature “raindrop” sensation. This approach is traditionally believed to influence the body’s energy field while encouraging deep relaxation.
The Raindrop sequence uses seven single oils and two proprietary blends from Young Living. The technique begins with Valor, known for its grounding and balancing aroma. Oregano and Thyme follow, offering strong, herbaceous scents traditionally associated with cleansing and vitality. Basil is then applied for its soothing, uplifting qualities, while Aroma Siez—another Young Living blend—is used to harmonize and soften the earlier layers. Marjoram, Birch/Wintergreen, and Cypress contribute warming, cooling, and circulation-supportive aromatherapy elements. The sequence concludes with Peppermint, which adds a refreshing finish.
A warm compress is placed over the back to encourage absorption and enhance relaxation. Clients often describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more aligned after a session, with the aromatic experience lingering for hours. Practitioners commonly suggest avoiding showering for 24 hours to allow the oils to continue their aromatic influence.
Many people enjoy Raindrop Therapy monthly as part of a self-care routine for emotional balance, stress relief, and overall wellness.
